At Oklahoma Children's OU Health, we are dedicated to improving pediatric
emergency and disaster preparedness through our partnership with the
Pediatric Pandemic Network (PPN). As one of 14 Hub Sites across the United States, OU Health collaborates
with state and national partners, including the nation’s leading
children’s hospitals to address the unique challenges children face
during everyday emergencies and disasters. By providing curated resources for
families,
schools, and
medical professionals, we aim to build community resilience and strengthen emergency response
capabilities.
The Pediatric Pandemic Network is a federally funded cooperative agreement among children’s hospitals across the United States. It aims to empower all healthcare systems and their communities to be prepared to provide high-quality pediatric care in everyday emergencies, disasters, and global health threats. Oklahoma Children’s OU Health is the only site in the state and the surrounding region, and we collaborate with the top children’s hospitals in the nation on pediatric emergency preparedness.
In emergencies, children have distinct needs. However, more than 80% of U.S. children do not have access to pediatric emergency services. Pediatric readiness ensures the ability to provide high-quality emergency care by having the recommended pediatric-specific equipment, champions, competencies, policies, and resources.
Our PPN team is proud to partner with Emergency Medical Services for Children (EMSC) to provide critical support for Oklahoma’s rural and Native emergency medical service professionals. The PPN hub sites collaborate with EMSC’s state and national partners to optimize outcomes for children across the emergency care continuum, while providing educational resources, exercises, and simulations to empower hospitals and communities to provide high-quality care to children.
The Community Pediatric Readiness Team at Oklahoma Children’s OU Health supports this mission by providing expanded knowledge and training for emergency departments statewide.
