In 2015 the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approved HIFU for treatment of prostate cancer. Sonablate® HIFU also treats benign tumors, essential tremors, and cancer-related bone pain. Benefits include low risk of erectile dysfunction or incontinence, no radiation exposure, and quick recovery—most patients resuming normal activities within 24 hours.
