Symptoms such as an inflamed gallbladder and a single large gallstone indicate the most common risk factors for gallbladder cancer. No routine screening tests or blood tests exist for this rare cancer, which is often confused with more typical gallbladder problems. That’s why you want to talk with the oncology experts at OU Health Stephenson Cancer Center in Oklahoma City.
At Stephenson Cancer Center, Oklahoma’s only National Cancer Institute (NCI)-Designated Cancer Center, you’ll collaborate with a multidisciplinary team of cancer experts for accurate diagnosis, innovative treatment and effective management of gallbladder cancer.
You benefit from the latest advanced imaging technology to support precise diagnosis that helps identify and treat your condition as early as possible. And you’ll get all your care and treatment in one convenient, up-to-date location designed for your comfort.
During your gallbladder cancer experience at Stephenson Cancer Center, you and your care team will develop a detailed treatment plan that may include a wide range of options, including specialized surgery to immediately remove the entire gallbladder and tumor.
In advanced stages of the disease, gallbladder cancer can block bile ducts and cause bile to build up in the body. You and your doctors may choose minimally invasive surgical techniques to open the bile ducts and relieve painful pressure.
If your particular condition may respond well to treatment options other than surgery, you and your doctors can use chemotherapy or radiation therapy to shrink the tumor and eliminate cancer cells.
Throughout your journey at Stephenson Cancer Center, your care team includes a nurse navigator, a specially trained registered nurse (RN) who acts as your personal advocate and adds an extra layer of support. Learn more about cancer navigation services.
You also gain access to extensive supportive care services, such as genetic counseling, nutritional therapy, support groups, palliative care, cancer education workshops, and symptom and pain management. And you’ll find all your cancer-related services in a bright, welcoming, up-to-date facility close to home and designed for your comfort and convenience.
In Stephenson Cancer Center’s comprehensive program, you also may qualify to participate in cancer clinical trials as part of the National Cancer Institute’s National Clinical Trials Network (NCTN), giving you early access to today’s newest drugs and potential breakthrough treatments before they become widely available.
At Stephenson Cancer Center, you join a team of highly experienced gastrointestinal cancer experts who collaborate with a variety of medical specialists, including medical oncologists, cancer surgeons, radiation oncologists and gastroenterologists.
