Expert Oncology Nutrition Care Close to Home

When you choose OU Health Stephenson Cancer Center for your care, you gain access to expert oncology nutrition services – at no cost to you – through our Supportive Care program. You and your cancer care team work closely with registered dietitians (RD), licensed by the Oklahoma State Medical Board, who answer your questions about diet, eating and related concerns and help create a personalized plan that ensures you get the proper nutrients throughout your treatment.

Medical Nutrition Management for Better Health

Get the medical nutrition assistance you need to help manage:

  • Changes in your appetite or food tastes

  • Unexpected weight changes or weight loss

  • Difficulty with chewing and swallowing

  • Side effects such as nausea, vomiting, constipation or diarrhea

  • Tube feeding and intravenous (IV) nutrition

  • Exocrine pancreatic insufficiency (EPI)

  • Wound healing after surgery

Nourish Nook

You can help improve cancer-related outcomes for vulnerable cancer patients in our area when you donate healthy shelf-stable food to Nourish Nook at OU Health Stephenson Cancer Center. Your contribution provides the resources to address health disparities and also improve health equity across the region.

While we cannot accept homemade, unlabeled, opened or expired products, we welcome monetary donations and a wide variety of no-or-low salt and no-sugar-added foods such as:

  • Protein – Nut butters, low-sodium beans, canned meats, water-packed fish or chicken, raw nuts and seeds

  • Fruits – Applesauce and dried fruits, pumpkin puree, frozen fruit

  • Vegetables – Canned green beans, corn, mixed vegetables, carrots frozen vegetables, riced cauliflower, vegetable ‘noodles’

  • Grains – Rice (brown, white, wild), oatmeal, cream of wheat, grits, whole grain tortillas, quinoa, no-butter popcorn, whole grain granola bars/crackers/pasta

  • Dairy products – Shelf-stable milks, including plant-based milks

  • Other food items – Canned soups, frozen meals (Healthy Choice, Smart Ones)

A gift of $30 provides 15 meals for a patient at OU Health Stephenson Cancer Center. For more information and a complete list of items, call (405) 271-3296.

Your Supportive Care Team

Throughout your journey at OU Health Stephenson Cancer Center, you can depend on your Supportive Care team to walk with you every step of the way. You’ll work with professionals from many healthcare disciplines, including palliative care providers, psychologists, psychiatrists, genetic counselors, clinical social workers, case managers, oncology dietitians, physical therapists, occupational therapists, cancer navigators, American Indian navigators and tobacco cessation counselors, as well as other helpful clinicians and support staff.
