About Muhammad Furqan

Muhammad Furqan, M.D., is a board-certified medical oncologist practicing in Oklahoma City. He serves as professor and associate section chief for Research in Solid Tumor Oncology and holds the Mai Eager Anderson Endowed Chair in Clinical Trials at OU Health Stephenson Cancer Center.

Dr. Furqan specializes in the management of thoracic malignancies, including lung cancer, mesothelioma, carcinoid tumors and head and neck cancers. His expertise also extends to early-phase clinical trials and drug development.

He earned his medical degree from Dow Medical College in Karachi, Pakistan; completed his Internal Medicine residency at Seton Hall University of Health and Medical Sciences – Trinitas Regional Medical Center in Elizabeth, N.J.; and his Hematology/Oncology fellowship at New York Medical College in Valhalla, N.Y.

Dr. Furqan is an active member of the Alliance Respiratory Committee and the NRG Head and Neck Cancer Committee. In recognition of his leadership and contributions to NCI-funded clinical trials, he received the NCI Cancer Clinical Investigator Team Leadership Award in 2020. Dr. Furqan is actively involved in various professional organizations including community outreach and advocacy groups.

He also serves on the AACI Clinical Research Innovation Steering Committee, helping guide national efforts to enhance clinical trials infrastructure and disseminate best practices across cancer centers. Prior to joining OU Health, Dr. Furqan led the Thoracic Multidisciplinary Oncology Group at the Holden Comprehensive Cancer Center, University of Iowa, where he also served as medical director of the Clinical Trials Office and interim associate director for clinical research.
