About George Salem

George Salem, M.D. is a fellowship-trained inflammatory bowel disease gastroenterologist with OU Health in Edmond. His practice is focused on patients with complex inflammatory bowel disease, including Crohn's Disease and Colitis. Dr. Salem performs the following procedures:

  • Upper Endoscopy (diagnostic and therapeutic: esophageal dilation, Botox injection, management of varices, placement and exchange of feeding tubes (PEG))
  • Colonoscopy (screening, diagnostic, chromoendoscopy, therapeutic: polyp resections – including endoscopic mucosal resection, colonic/rectal dilations)
  • Flexible Sigmoidoscopy (screening, diagnostic, therapeutic)
  • Video Capsule Endoscopy (diagnostic)
  • Fecal Microbiota Transplant (therapeutic: for cases of recurrent C. Difficile infections)

Dr. Salem earned his medical degree from the Jordan University of Science and Technology – Faculty of Medicine, graduating with honors. He completed an internal medicine residency and a gastroenterology and hepatology fellowship from the University of Oklahoma College of Medicine in Oklahoma City.

Early during his gastroenterology fellowship training, he focused on optimizing the care of patients with inflammatory bowel disease. He received the Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation Visiting Inflammatory Bowel Disease Fellow Program Award and had the opportunity to be exposed to the clinical practices in inflammatory bowel disease at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota — an internationally recognized and a leading IBD Center. In addition, he received the Richard F. Harty Outstanding Fellow in Gastroenterology Award upon completion of his general gastroenterology fellowship training from the OU College of Medicine.
