Adi Joshi, PhD
- Position: Assistant Professor, Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Diabetes Research Member
Biography
Dr. Joshi’s research is focused on understanding Aryl hydrocarbon Receptor (AhR) signaling in normal liver physiology, as well as in plethora of hepatic and metabolic diseases. His team investigates molecular mechanisms by which endogenous AhR agonist induced expression of AhR target gene, stanniocalcin 2 is responsible for hepatoprotection against chemical, environmental and pharmacological stressors. In his team’s latest endeavor, they are deciphering the role of stanniocalcin 2 in hyperglycemia and obesity. His research employs cutting-edge cellular, molecular and biochemical methodologies, as well as utilizes innovative technologies such as next-generation sequencing and CRISPR mediated genome editing. His long-term objectives are to acquire comprehensive mechanistic understanding of AhR and its target genes in liver and to develop a translational approach to AhR biology through identifying and characterizing therapeutically useful AhR agonists that can protect against liver and metabolic diseases.
