About Tyler Sparkman
Tyler Sparkman, PhD, is an adult psychologist with OU Health Physicians and an assistant professor at the OU-TU School of Community Medicine in Tulsa, OK. He earned both his bachelor’s degree and his master’s degree at the University of Oklahoma in Norman, OK. Thereafter, he earned his doctoral degree in counseling psychology at Northeastern University in Boston, MA. Dr. Sparkman is a licensed health service psychologist. He strives to provide patient-centered care that involves a personalized treatment plan and utilizes evidenced-based practices. His clinical interests are broad and include mood disorders, anxiety disorders, psychosis, and Borderline Personality Disorder. Dr. Sparkman is passionate about treating underserved and minority populations as well as individuals within the LGBTQIA+ community. Likewise, he prides himself on continued involvement in and awareness of social justice issues. While attending graduate school, Dr. Sparkman completed two year-long clinical rotations at the Massachusetts Mental Health Center, a Harvard Medical School Teaching Hospital, where he received specialized training in Cognitive Behavior Therapy for Psychosis and Dialectical Behavior Therapy. In addition to his clinical interests, Dr. Sparkman’s research interests vary, but mainly focus on health disparities. While attending Northeastern University, he served as a study therapist for three years on an NIH-funded clinical trial examining the efficacy of a culturally-adapted version of Motivational Interviewing. Moreover, his dissertation research explored the relationships between sociocultural variables and mental health outcomes among the Latinx population. He has also worked on research projects with the school of social work at Boston University and with the department of psychiatry at the University of California, Los Angeles. After completing his post-doctoral fellowship, Dr. Sparkman joined the Department of Psychiatry with OU Health Physicians and the OU-TU School of Community Medicine in Tulsa, OK.
