About Rachel Caywood
Rachel M. Caywood, OD, is an optometrist at OU Health Dean McGee Eye Institute who provides comprehensive primary eye care and contact lens services. She is dedicated to helping patients maintain healthy vision through personalized care, preventive eye health services, and the diagnosis and management of a wide range of ocular conditions.
Dr. Caywood earned her bachelor's degree in biology from the University of South Dakota and her Doctor of Optometry degree from the Illinois College of Optometry. She then completed a family practice optometry residency at Northeastern State University College of Optometry in Tahlequah, Oklahoma.
Prior to joining Dean McGee Eye Institute, Dr. Caywood served as an optometrist at the Oklahoma City Veterans Affairs Medical Center for many years and previously practiced at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Fayetteville, Arkansas, as well as in private practice in the Tulsa area. Her extensive clinical experience has earned the respect of colleagues throughout Oklahoma's eye care community.
A Fellow of the American Academy of Optometry, Dr. Caywood is committed to advancing the profession and currently serves on the Exam Development Council for the National Board of Examiners in Optometry. She combines evidence-based care with a patient-centered approach to help individuals achieve and maintain their best possible vision.
Outside of work, Dr. Caywood enjoys listening to audiobooks, traveling, cooking, and participating in activities through her local church. She and her husband, Josh, a chemical engineer, have two daughters, Alyssa and Alexis.
