About Phillip Bonney

Phillip Bonney, M.D., M.S., is a neurosurgeon specializing in neurotrauma. He serves as an Assistant Professor and Director of Neurotrauma in the Department of Neurosurgery at OU Health. His clinical practice includes extensive experience in trauma-focused neurosurgical care, with prior roles at Wilma Chan Highland Hospital and Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital.

Dr. Bonney earned his Doctor of Medicine from the University of Oklahoma College of Medicine and completed residency training in neurosurgery at the University of Southern California. He pursued fellowship training in neurotrauma at the University of California San Francisco and additional spine fellowship training at the University of Southern California. He also completed formal training in healthcare administration and quality improvement through the LAC+USC Healthcare Administration Scholars Program. He holds a Master of Science in Clinical and Epidemiological Research from the University of California San Francisco.

In addition to his clinical roles, Dr. Bonney contributes to academic medicine as a small group discussion leader in the UCSF School of Medicine’s preclinical curriculum. He is an active member of several professional organizations and serves as an ad hoc reviewer for multiple neurosurgical journals. Outside of medicine, Dr. Bonney enjoys running—having completed marathons and half marathons—along with sailing, golf, soccer, and spending time with his family and golden retrievers. As an Assistant Professor, he remains committed to both clinical excellence and medical education.
