About Panayiotis Pelargos

Panayiotis Pelargos, M.D., M.S., serves as a neurosurgeon at OU Health and an assistant professor in the Department of Neurosurgery at the University of Oklahoma College of Medicine. He specializes in advanced surgical neuro-oncology, with clinical expertise in brain and skull base tumors, minimally invasive neurosurgical techniques, and quality improvement in pituitary and skull base surgery. His practice integrates patient care, research, and education, with a focus on tumor genomics, molecular biology, and improving surgical outcomes.

He earned his Doctor of Medicine with distinction in research from the University of California Irvine School of Medicine and completed a Master of Science in Biomedical and Translational Science at the same institution. Dr. Pelargos completed his neurological surgery residency training and a post-doctoral research fellowship in tumor genomics and molecular biology at the University of Oklahoma College of Medicine. He further completed fellowship training in advanced surgical neuro-oncology at Washington University in St. Louis School of Medicine. His academic background also includes a Bachelor of Arts in Economics from the University of California Los Angeles and foundational studies at Los Angeles Valley College.

As an assistant professor, Dr. Pelargos is actively involved in academic seminars, grand rounds, and resident education conferences. He has served as a resident advisor for the AANS Medical Student Chapter and participated in multiple professional committees focused on patient experience and quality improvement. Dr. Pelargos is a member of several professional societies, including the American Association of Neurological Surgeons and the North American Skull Base Society. He also contributes as an ad-hoc reviewer for leading neurosurgical journals and has received honors such as the University of Oklahoma Neurosurgery Resident Teaching Award.
