About Christopher Graffeo

Christopher S Graffeo, M.D. MS, is a neurosurgeon with OU Health in Oklahoma City where he focuses on brain tumors as part of OU Health Stephenson Cancer Center, as well as skull base and cerebrovascular diseases.

Originally from Brooklyn, New York, Christopher was an undergraduate at the University of Virginia, where he studied literature, art history, and philosophy. After returning to New York City and working for several years as an editor and a musician, he enrolled in the post-baccalaureate premedical program at Columbia University and went on to medical school at NYU.

As a resident and fellow at Mayo Clinic Rochester, Christopher's academic and clinical activities focused on complex cranial surgery, with special interests in open cerebrovascular techniques, skull base tumors, radiosurgery, and neuroanatomy. After residency graduation in 2021, Christopher completed an open cerebrovascular and skull base fellow with Dr. Michael Lawton at the Barrow Neurological Institute in Phoenix, Arizona. He joined the University of Oklahoma faculty in 2022 and was promoted to Associate Professor of Neurosurgery in 2026. Christopher is extensively involved with both undergraduate and graduate medical education, serving as the Thread Director for Biostatistics & Epidemiology at the OU College of Medicine, as well as the Associate Program Director for the OU Neurosurgery Residency.

Christopher’s scholarly interests include advanced statistical modeling, pedagogy, and neuroanatomy, which is reflected in his role as the Co-director of the OU Surgical Innovation Laboratory. He has published 318 peer-reviewed publications and 6 book chapters, and serves as the Editor-in-Chief of Journal of Neurological Surgery: Reports. He has received dozens of state, national, and international awards, including the Balfour Award and Mayo Brothers Foundation Award, which are the highest honors given to Mayo Clinic trainees for research and clinical achievements, respectively. Christopher is proud to be widely involved with organized neurosurgery at the national level and has formal committee appointments with the Congress of Neurological Surgeons, Society of Neurological Surgeons, North American Skull Base Society, and American Association of Neurological Surgeons, where he Chairs the AANS Early-to-mid Career Neurosurgeons Committee.

Christopher loves his adopted home of Oklahoma (“The friendliest place I’ve ever lived!”), and when he’s not operating or teaching, his favorite pastimes include skiing, rock climbing, cycling, reading, and live music. Most of all, he loves hanging out with his wife, Audrey, and their sons, Leif and Hal.
