About Christian Peterson
J. Christian Peterson, MD, is a fellowship-trained orthopaedic surgeon specializing in sports medicine and shoulder surgery, focusing on arthroscopic and reconstructive procedures of the shoulder, elbow, knee, and hip. He has extensive experience providing team coverage for collegiate and professional athletics, including the Philadelphia Phillies Baseball Club, Villanova University, St. Joseph University, and Drexel University Athletics. He cares for athletes and active individuals of all ages and is passionate about optimizing their function and quality of life.
Dr. Peterson earned his Doctorate of Medicine from Oakland University William Beaumont School of Medicine in Rochester, Michigan. He completed his orthopaedic surgery residency at Corewell Health and Michigan State University College of Human Medicine in Grand Rapids. He then pursued fellowship training in sports medicine and shoulder surgery at the Rothman Orthopaedic Institute in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Originally from the Mountain West, Dr. Peterson completed his undergraduate studies at Weber State University in Ogden, Utah, where he competed on the Division 1 basketball team and graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Athletic Therapy.
In addition to his clinical work, Dr. Peterson is active in research, with multiple peer-reviewed publications and ongoing projects in orthopaedic surgery. He has presented at national and international conferences and is a candidate member of several professional organizations, including the American Orthopedic Society for Sports Medicine, Arthroscopy Association of North America, and American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons. Outside of medicine, Dr. Peterson enjoys spending time with his wife and two children, as well as golfing, boating, fly-fishing, and hiking.
