About Andre De Souza
Dr. Andre De Souza is a hematologist oncologist at the OU Health Stephenson Cancer Center in Oklahoma City. Both a physician and researcher, Dr. De Souza has expertise in genitourinary malignancies, precision oncology and early-phase drug development. He completed an advanced fellowship training in the National Cancer Institute’s Advanced Development Therapeutics program, where he focuses on first-in-human and biomarker-driven clinical trials designed to translate cancer biology into innovative therapies. His work integrates molecular oncology, clinical trial design, and multidisciplinary collaboration to advance personalized, evidence-based cancer care.
Dr. De Souza received his medical degree from the Federal University of Bahia School of Medicine in Salvador, Brazil — the oldest medical school in the country — where he graduated with distinction and was recognized summa cum laude during his surgical training. He completed his Internal Medicine residency at Tufts University, MetroWest Medical Center, in Framingham, Mass., followed by a Hematology Oncology fellowship at Boston University, Roger Williams Medical Center, in Providence, R.I., with extensive training at Brown University-affiliated hospitals. Board certified in Internal Medicine, Hematology, and Oncology by the American Board of Internal Medicine, he brings a rigorous academic foundation to both patient care and clinical investigation.
From 2019 to 2023, De Souza served as Assistant Professor of Medicine at the Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University and faculty in the Division of Hematology/Oncology. During this time, he specialized in genitourinary cancers and co-founded and co-directed the Precision Molecular Tumor Board, fostering genome-driven treatment strategies across tumor types. He also led a multidisciplinary research group involving trainees and faculty from oncology, pathology, bioinformatics, and biostatistics. His translational research has contributed to novel insights into cancer biology, including the clinical implications of MTAP deletions and tumor evolution, and he has authored and collaborated on peer-reviewed publications advancing molecularly targeted cancer therapy.
Known for his commitment to patient-centered care, Dr. De Souza emphasizes clarity, trust and shared understanding in his practice. His goal is to advance the latest in oncology treatments through thoughtfully designed clinical trials while training future clinicians and scientists to bridge cancer biology and transformative patient care.
