About Donnie Franklin
Donnie R. Franklin, BCO, is an ocularist specializing in the design, fitting, fabrication, and long-term care of custom ocular prostheses. He works closely with patients who have experienced eye loss due to injury, disease, or congenital conditions, helping restore appearance, comfort, and confidence through personalized prosthetic care.
With more than three decades of experience in ocularistry, Franklin completed a five-year apprenticeship through the American Society of Ocularists before becoming a Board Certified Ocularist in 1999. Since that time, he has maintained board certification through ongoing continuing education and professional development, demonstrating a long-standing commitment to excellence in patient care and the advancement of his specialty.
Throughout his career, Franklin has served patients and healthcare systems across the region, including as President of Fort Worth Eye Prosthetics and as an Allied Health Professional with Cook Children’s Hospital and Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center. He has also been an active leader in the profession, serving on the Board of Directors of the American Society of Ocularists and on the Board of Trustees of the International Academy of Ocularistry, where he held the role of Secretary-Treasurer.
A respected educator and speaker, Franklin has presented at meetings of both the American Society of Ocularists and the American Academy of Ophthalmology. He is passionate about combining technical expertise with compassionate care to help patients achieve the best possible functional and cosmetic outcomes.
At OU Health Dean McGee Eye Institute, Franklin works as part of a multidisciplinary team dedicated to providing comprehensive care for patients requiring ocular prosthetic services. His extensive experience and patient-centered approach help individuals navigate their reconstructive journey with confidence and support.
