About Anil Patel

Anil D. Patel, MD, FRCSC, FACS, is a neuro-ophthalmologist at OU Health Dean McGee Eye Institute and a Clinical Professor of Ophthalmology at the University of Oklahoma College of Medicine. 

Dr. Patel specializes in diagnosing and treating visual disorders related to neurologic disease, including optic nerve disorders, double vision, visual field loss, stroke-related vision problems, brain tumors, pupil abnormalities, idiopathic intracranial hypertension, and unexplained vision loss. He works closely with neurologists and neurosurgeons to provide comprehensive care for patients with complex neuro-ophthalmic conditions.

Originally from Canada, Dr. Patel earned his medical degree and completed his ophthalmology residency at the University of Saskatchewan. He completed a two-year fellowship in neuro-ophthalmology at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City, IA.

In addition to his clinical practice, Dr. Patel is actively involved in research and education. He has published extensively in the field of neuro-ophthalmology, served as a principal investigator on National Institutes of Health and National Eye Institute-sponsored studies, and directs the Neuro-Ophthalmology Fellowship Program at Dean McGee Eye Institute. He is also deeply committed to training medical students, residents, and fellows.

A board-certified ophthalmologist in both the United States and Canada, Dr. Patel is a fellow of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada, the American College of Surgeons, and the American Academy of Ophthalmology. He has been recognized as a Castle Connolly Top Doctor and has been named one of Best Doctors in America since 2007.

Outside of medicine, Dr. Patel enjoys traveling with his family, cycling, running, and curling.
