Interested Oklahomans are invited to apply for the Board of Advocates at the Stephenson Cancer Center. The board is a group of 60 community leaders from across the state of Oklahoma who are interested in cancer education, outreach, and advocacy.
Advocates play an important role in educating their communities about the treatment, research, and preventive strategies available at the Stephenson Cancer Center. Advocates are encouraged to participate in a number of ways including: bringing groups for tours, arranging speaker visits in their hometown, organizing third party events, and advocating for better cancer prevention strategies in the state.
Each board member serves a two-year term, with two meetings held per year at the Stephenson Cancer Center in Oklahoma City. Eligibility requirements include:
- Committing to a two-year term and attend 75 percent of the four meetings.
- Making a financial contribution in any amount.
- Actively participating in one outreach or advocacy initiative per year.
The deadline to apply is Friday, June 8, and applicants selected for phone and/or in-person interviews will be notified by Friday, June 22. New members will be on-boarded with an orientation in July, and the Summer meeting will be held on Friday, Aug. 10 from 2-5 p.m.
