Pet Therapy Program

The Pawsitively OUr Pals Volunteer Program provides a wide range of services. Dogs and their owners offer heartwarming and supportive experiences to patients, visitors and staff members. Read about our Pet Therapy Programs at OU Health.

Human Requirements

Program Volunteers must be at least 21 years old and need to do the following:

  • Submit application
  • Be available for a virtual or in-person interview
  • Attend general volunteer orientation
  • Pass background check and drug screen
  • Receive initial and annual health evaluations
  • Get annual flu vaccine
  • Purchase volunteer smock/jacket ($30)
  • Wear the volunteer uniform
  • Must be the owner of the dog you will volunteer with at the hospital
  • Follow all hospital health protocols

Dog Requirements

Your dog must satisfy the following requirements to join you as a volunteer:

  • Must be registered through a certifying Pet Therapy National Organization, and carry insuance
  • Be current on rabies and distemper/hepatitis/ leptospirosis/parainfluenza/parvo immunizations
  • Bathed and clean prior to hospital visit.
