Cancer Health & Wellness Events

Stephenson Cancer Center (SCC) annually hosts and/or participates in numerous health and wellness events with the goal of raising awareness of cancer in the community. Recent events include:

Colon Cancer Awareness Day
Featuring guided tours through a 30-foot inflatable colon!

Oklahoma’s HPV Summit
The summit features a day of expert speakers to educate and inspire key community stakeholders that have an influential role in increasing the uptake of Human Papillomavirus (HPV) vaccination. The content builds confidence and normalizes HPV vaccination as well as provides information on how to increase HPV vaccination.

Oklahoma’s Back on Track HPV Webinars
In an effort to support the work our community partners are doing in HPV vaccination, we invited them to join us for the Oklahoma HPV Back on Track webinar and learn strategies on getting back to vaccinating adolescents for the six cancers that are caused by HPV. During this series we educated our community partners about maintaining rates during the pandemic, best practices for creating standing orders, vaccine hesitancy, and provide insight on how to use flu vaccination as an opportunity for HPV vaccination.

Melanoma Monday
SCC celebrates this nationally recognized awareness day by reminding university faculty, staff and guests Donut Forget To Wear Your Sunscreen and practice sun safety in the summer months and all year round. Complimentary donuts and sunscreen are a big hit.

World Cancer Day
February 4th is World Cancer Day, a leading international awareness day. The SCC works to unite people across the world to help raise awareness, improve education and catalyze personal, collective and government action. Together with our community partners across Oklahoma, we worked to reimagine our state and a world where preventable cancer deaths are saved and access to life-saving cancer treatment and care is equal for all – no matter who you are or where you live. SCC, our community partners and physicians invited community members to attend an educational event where they could get health screenings (diabetes, head and neck cancer check, Mammogram) and hear from SCC physicians on topics of: The Value of Community and Prevention, Nutrition and Cancer, and Research.
